Since its beginnings, Sidney’s has brought Washingtonians and their neighbors the best dance music of every era, all tastefully presented and performed. We can customize our band’s size and style to fit your exact needs. Our musicians are a virtual who’s who on Washington’s music scene, from our soloists to our mid sized offering, Full Swing (six to ten musicians), to the renowned Sidney Orchestra (full big band). Jazz

Jazz is... well it can be a lot of things. And members of Compact jazz can play it any way you want it. Our ensembles are built to complement every aspect of a client's event... size of room, audience profile, level of interaction, and of course the style of jazz indicated. Ensembles can be as small as a duo and expanded upward to seven

Instrumentation starts with a chord instrument like Piano (keyboard) or Guitar. Next, a Bass (either electric or acoustic) is added. Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, and Latin Percussion or Drum Set round out the sound.

The roster of musicians that staff these jazz ensembles reads like a Who's Who of Music in Washington. Here are a few: Robert Smith, White House pianist and former leader of the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble. Ron Diehl, former lead alto saxophonist of the Navy Commodores Jazz Band. Pete Barrenbregge, former lead tenor saxophonist and director of the US Air Force Airmen of Note and Dallas Smith, bassist and former leader of the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble. This is the caliber of player that you see and hear in Compact Jazz.

Compact Jazz members primarily perform for social and business receptions in the Washington, D.C. area. Clients include: Willard Inercontinental Hotel, Special Events at Union Station, D.C. Coast Restaurant, National Press Club, Jefferson Hotel, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Bloomberg News, Business Week Executive Programs, CNN... and many more.
